In response to the Health and Safety Executive’s request for an iconic building that reflects its international status, Kajima have delivered an impressive and state-of-the-art office complex.

The building has facilitated and enabled a transformation in work practices, providing modern, non-hierarchical and efficient work and leisure spaces. Accommodating over 1700 staff, the four storey facility also includes a library accessible to the public on application, a lecture theatre and a restaurant as well as gymnasium facilities for staff.

Internally, the complex comprises eight buildings linked by a full height atria, giving a vast impression of space and openness. Most of the four-storey buildings have open sides overlooking the atria to further the feeling of space and to facilitate the natural ventilation principles embodied in the mixed-mode system.

In 2006, the HSE HQ won awards for the best corporate workplace by the British Council of Offices and for its exceptional level of design at the Public Private Finance awards.
